Interior Painting Prep: What to Do Before the Painters Arrive

Getting your home professionally painted is exciting — it means a fresh start, a clean space, and a whole new vibe. But to get the best results, it helps to be prepared before the painting crew shows up at your door.

Whether you’re painting a single room or your entire home, a little prep work on your end goes a long way. And don’t worry — we’ll handle the heavy lifting. This guide simply ensures that when we arrive, we can get straight to work.

Here’s exactly what to do before your interior painters arrive — Calgary-style.

🪑 1. Clear the Space (as Much as Possible)

To give your painters full access to walls, trim, and corners, try to remove:

  • Small furniture pieces
  • Lamps, side tables, décor, rugs
  • Wall art and hanging frames

What we handle:
Our crew will move large items like couches or beds and cover them completely with drop cloths or plastic sheeting.

✅ Tip: Store smaller breakables and valuables in another room to keep them safe and out of the way.

🎨 2. Take Down Wall Hangings, Shelves & Fixtures

Before painting begins, it’s best to:

  • Remove photos, mirrors, and floating shelves
  • Unscrew curtain rods or blinds if they’re in the way
  • Take off wall hooks unless they’re staying post-paint

We’ll fill the holes unless you plan to re-hang the same item in the exact same spot. Just let us know!

🧹 3. Give the Room a Quick Clean

You don’t need to deep clean, but it helps to:

  • Lightly vacuum or sweep floors
  • Wipe down dusty baseboards or window sills
  • Make sure countertops and furniture surfaces are clutter-free

A clean room = better masking, fewer interruptions, and a smoother overall process.

🔌 4. Unplug Electronics and Cover Cables

Before painting day, unplug TVs, routers, or floor lamps in rooms being painted. Our painters use ladders, cords, and equipment that need clear pathways.

We’ll work around mounted electronics, but the fewer cords around, the safer it is for your home and our crew.

🚪 5. Give Us Access to the Right Rooms

On painting day, please:

  • Leave all doors unlocked to the rooms we’re painting
  • Make sure pets are safely contained
  • Communicate any areas that are off-limits

Our team is respectful, professional, and efficient — the more access we have, the faster and cleaner the work goes.

❄️ Bonus Tip: Interior Painting is Ideal from November to May

Fall and winter (especially November 15 to May 15) are great seasons to paint interiors because:

  • You’re spending more time indoors
  • Humidity is lower, helping paint cure better
  • Scheduling is more flexible
  • You’ll be ready for holiday guests and cozy nights in
