Quick answer

What should you expect from an interior painter?

Dynamic Painting repaints bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, stairwells and whole-home interiors in Calgary. Your written estimate identifies the walls, ceilings, trim, doors and closets included, along with repairs, protection and the coating system.

Marc reviews your rooms and existing finishes before quoting. Walls, ceilings and trim receive two finish coats; some walls need a third coat for coverage or demanding light conditions. Primer is selected separately for the surface.

Details to inspect
Look closely at the wall-to-trim edges and the changes in daylight between rooms. Those are useful details to consider when choosing a colour for connected spaces.

Planning a similar repaint?

For a similar home, we assess access to tall walls, protection around windows and flooring, and how the proposed colour looks in each connected room. Your written scope identifies the surfaces and preparation included.

  • Which rooms and connecting walls should share the colour?
  • What access is needed for the tall walls and upper hallway?
  • Which floors, windows and furnishings need protection?

Planning a similar repaint?

Bring a photo of the finishes you plan to keep. We can review the wall colour beside them and define the protection and painting areas, without assuming cabinets or trim are part of a walls-only quote.

  • Which existing cabinets, counters and floors are staying?
  • Should the wall colour continue through the adjoining rooms?
  • Are doors and trim included, or is this a walls-only project?

Interior painting services

One home. Many different surfaces.

Walls, trim, doors and ceilings do not all need the same preparation or coating. Each is assessed separately.

01

Walls & rooms

Filling, power sanding, spot priming and two finish coats, with an additional coat where coverage requires it.

02

Trim & baseboards

Caulking and nail-hole filling where needed, followed by scuff sanding and a durable finish.

03

Doors & frames

Brush-and-roll or sprayed finishing selected for the existing surface and desired result.

04

Ceilings

Standard ceiling repaints assessed separately, including stains, damage and existing texture.

05

Drywall repairs

Minor repairs can be included; larger damage and texture work are identified before work begins.

06

Feature walls

Focused colour changes and room updates with clean lines and the right coating for the surface.

A room or a few walls

Small interior painting jobs, with a defined scope.

Planning one bedroom, a feature wall or two walls? Send Marc photographs and a list of the surfaces you want painted. We can assess smaller interior projects and confirm the work and scheduling before you book.

A standalone bedroom starts at $650. A smaller area still requires protection, preparation and setup, so its price is assessed individually. For an older finish, repainting the whole wall may produce a more consistent result than a small touch-up.

See the interior pricing assumptions or request an estimate for your room.

Separately quoted interior finishing

Cabinet-door painting and spray finishing.

Dynamic Painting can assess cabinet-door painting and sprayed finishing as a separate part of an interior project. Our original crew video shows a cabinet door being sprayed in a protected work area.

We review the existing coating, surface material, wear and adhesion before selecting cleaning, sanding, primer and the finish system. The estimate identifies which doors, drawer fronts, frames and exposed panels are included; cabinet work is not part of a walls-only price.

Ask about masking, hardware, access, drying and curing time, and how the kitchen can be used during the work. The kitchen project photographs above show completed wall painting around the existing cabinets.

Residential condos and rentals

Plan around building access and the handover date.

We repaint individual condo and rental interiors in Calgary. The completed condo example shows hallway walls and door-frame details; the same written-scope approach identifies the rooms and surfaces for your property.

Owners and property managers can share the unit condition, repair needs, occupancy, move-out and handover dates, elevator or loading arrangements and permitted working hours. Marc confirms scheduling and the agreed surfaces before work starts; a requested turnover date is not a confirmed booking.

For condo common areas, multi-unit contracts, offices or retail premises, send the building and project requirements for a separate review. Those projects are not automatically included in our residential offer.

Washability, sheen and the surface being painted

Busy hallways, family rooms, doors and baseboards may call for different durability and sheen than ceilings or lower-traffic bedrooms. Benjamin Moore Regal or Scuff-X may suit some projects; the actual system depends on the room and scope.

Interior painting questions

Direct answers before you invite anyone into your home.

How much does interior painting cost in Calgary?

For a standard walls-only repaint with 8-foot ceilings and two finish coats, our planning rate is approximately $3.50 per square foot of floor area. A standalone bedroom starts at $650. Ceilings, trim, doors, additional repairs, height and extra coats affect the written estimate.

Do you take small interior painting jobs?

We can assess a single room, feature wall or a few walls. A standalone bedroom starts at $650; smaller areas are quoted for their actual preparation and setup, not a fraction of a whole-house price. Share photos, surfaces and timing so Marc can confirm the scope and availability.

Do you paint kitchen cabinets and spray doors?

Cabinet-door painting and spray finishing can be quoted separately from wall painting. Marc assesses the existing material, coating and condition first. Your estimate identifies the doors, drawer fronts, frames or panels included, preparation, finish system and practical access or curing requirements.

Can you repaint a condo or rental interior?

Yes. We assess individual residential condo and rental interiors, including the walls, doors, trim and repairs you want included. Share building access rules, permitted work hours, occupancy and handover dates. Building-wide common areas or commercial spaces need a separate scope review before we can confirm fit.

Do you protect floors and furniture?

Yes. Protection is planned before preparation begins. Floors, nearby furniture, fixtures and adjacent finishes are covered or masked according to the work area.

Do you repair walls before painting?

Normal dents, nail holes and minor imperfections can be included. Larger drywall damage, failed corners and texture repairs are assessed and clearly identified in the estimate.

What paint products do you use?

Products are selected for the room and surface. Common interior options include Benjamin Moore Regal, Scuff-X and Command, with upgrades priced according to the project.

Can you paint inside during winter?

Yes. Interior repainting can be scheduled during winter when the home can maintain the temperature and ventilation required by the coating. We plan room access, drying time and daily cleanup with you. Ask Marc about current availability.

Can you paint an occupied home?

Yes. The scope and sequence are planned to reduce disruption, with room access, furniture, pets and daily cleanup discussed before the project starts.

Do interior painters sand every wall?

We inspect the coating and surface before preparation, then power sand suitable walls using Festool equipment with HEPA dust extraction. Repairs and rough areas receive additional attention. Suspect older coatings need assessment before sanding.

Is primer always necessary before interior painting?

Not always. Bare drywall, exposed repairs, persistent stains, glossy finishes and manufacturer requirements may call for spot priming, full priming or a specialty primer. Sound previously painted surfaces do not automatically need a separate full primer coat.

Is professional designer colour selection available?

Yes. Clients who book an interior painting project with Dynamic Painting can access professional designer support for colour selection. Marc also helps review lighting, existing finishes, adjoining rooms, practical washability and suitable sheen.

Do you apply paint colour samples on site?

Yes. For booked interior painting clients, once you have chosen colours with our designer, Dynamic visits your home and applies paint colour samples directly to your walls. You can review them in daylight and evening lighting, alongside your existing finishes, before confirming your final colours.

How do lighting and sheen affect paint colour?

Daylight, evening lighting, surrounding finishes and sheen can change how the same paint colour appears. Reviewing those conditions before finalizing a finish helps set realistic expectations and choose products suited to each room.
